ADASS XXXI
Astronomical Data Analysis Software and Systems Conference Series
24 – 28 October 2021
The Westin Cape Town, Cape Town, South Africa
Mark your calendars for the 31st annual conference on Astronomical Data Analysis Software and Systems (http://adass.org). The conference will be held on 24-28 October 2021, and hosted by IDIA, RATT, and SARAO.
We are preparing for the possibility of a hybrid meeting, with a limited number of participants meeting physically (while observing social distancing precautions), and the rest of the world connecting online. We feel this would be particularly beneficial to the South African astronomy community, as well as to participants from other countries who are prepared to travel to Cape Town in these uncertain times.
If there are not enough participants to make a hybrid meeting practical, ADASS XXXI will revert to a full-on virtual meeting, as in 2020. It is vital for us to gauge the interest in attending a physical meeting. We must therefore ask everybody who is potentially interested in attending physically to pre-register before 20 June:
Participants who haven’t pre-registered for an in-person attendance will, most likely, not be offered the opportunity to attend physically. If you plan to attend remotely, you are also invited to pre-register.
Key themes for ADASS XXXI are:
- Solutions for workflow management and reproducibility
- Understanding and improving machine learning
- Modernizing and maintaining telescopes
- Building accessible and friendly user interfaces
- FAIR standards for astronomical data
- Teaching resources for astroinformatics and virtual observatory
- Image processing for the public and scientists
- Big data: How to deal with the 5 Vs (volume, velocity, variety, veracity, value)
- Citizen science in astronomy
Please help us gauge the in-person attendance by pre-registering.
Best regards,
Kathleen Labrie on behalf of the ADASS POC,
Oleg Smirnov and Russ Taylor on behalf of the ADASS XXXI LOC.
